In 2008, Ciel Gallery opened its doors for what would become a wild and wonderful ride through incarnations, collaborations and relationships I could never have dreamed.
Our first location on Camden was 700 square feet filled chock-a-block with art from across the world. When that was no longer enough to contain the growing clamor for art classes, we brought in new partners and moved to a glorious 1700 square feet on East Park. We filled it with love and exploration and talent and inspiration and deep friendships and plans and hard work and never-ending art. Ciel became a dynamic force in the art community and in the lives of those who work daily to spread creativity, new viewpoints, love, inspiration and both innate and learned skills throughout the community.
On February 28, 2018, Ciel will close her doors for the last time. Last Newsletter and where to find us.
What began as a one-year experiment for the international mosaic community became a ten-year force of nature that has left each of us changed immeasurably. We've dreamed, schemed, scrubbed, created, let the excitement carry us through exhaustion, soared, fallen a time or two, and gotten back up again and again and again.
We've taught classes in the gallery, on the street, abroad, and instigated a retreat program. We've hosted internationally-known artists. We've raised money for non-profits and donated talent and time for those in need. We've worked across the community in public art projects and with underserved communities.
We'll continue to do that every day moving forward, and our February newsletter will let you know what's ahead for each of us and how you can find us.
I chose the name Ciel (see-el) because it's French for sky, and I knew it would be a consistent reminder to wake up every day and reach for the stars. And we did. We can't thank you enough for sharing this evolution with us.
A few pictures of our journey from a solo-owned mosaic gallery (Pam) on Camden to a group-owned mosaic gallery (Annette, Pam, Teresa, Tina, Vicki) on East Park to a 27-artist collective. Best ride of my life. You can read how it started here, and read about our newest chapters next month -- Stay Tuned!
In the meantime ... PLEASE take this opportunity to share these last two months with us. Come to the First Friday openings, chat up an artist, cement those ties. Cause bottom line? We love you.
