CAROLINE COOLIDGE BROWN
PAINTING, PRINTMAKING & MIXED MEDIA
I'm an artist who loves to experiment. Acrylics, chalk, pens and glaze...collage paper, tissue, maps and book pages...rubber stamps and cardboard stencils...linoleum prints, monoprints, collographs, silk screens and etchings...or all of the above! Whether printmaking in my Charlotte studio or travel journaling with my watercolors in Italy or collaborating with my wonderful artist friends at Ciel, I enjoy searching for creative opportunities and challenges.
A true “mixed media” artist, Caroline layers different techniques and media in all of her artwork. She has lived and exhibited in Memphis and New York and is now happy to call Charlotte home.
Caroline participated in the Arts and Science Council’s inaugural Community Supported Art program in 2013; she created fifty small mixed media paintings in a series called “Fresh Catch” that layered colorful images of fish, NC maps and recipes. She’s also the proud owner of a medium-sized etching press named Elvis, thanks to generous funding from the Arts and Science Council through their 2015 Regional Artist Project Grant.
Caroline has led many creative retreats and teaches a variety of classes. Favorites include Mixed Media Visual Journaling, Watercolor Travel Journaling, Printmaking (with gelatin, linoleum and acrylic plates) and Loose & Juicy Abstract Painting. Look for her at “Sip & Sketch,” a combination of urban sketch/bar crawl around Ciel Gallery’s South End neighborhood.
