LEIGH B. WILLIAMS
A blank surface. A loosely formed idea. A finished work. The challenge. Sketches in a visual journal. Drawings and studies of color and composition. Brush to canvas. Pushing and pulling. The image emerges. Pleasing to the eye. Speaking to the soul. The satisfaction of creating. Leigh as an artist.
Backed by a BA in Fine Art from the College of William and Mary, when asked how long it took her to create a particular piece she likes to smile and say, “A lifetime.” A lifetime of experimenting with color and form, various materials, studying the Masters, engaging with the medium, and a lifetime of observing and participating in life itself.
Leigh has over 20 years experience teaching art at all levels. This included teaching high school Advanced Placement Art where she and her students were recognized for their achievements on the regional and national level. Currently Leigh spends most of her time in her studio painting or experimenting with various techniques; using oils, acrylics, and the relatively new medium of alcohol inks. Leigh’s work has been shown in juried shows and exhibits in the southeast and has garnered her numerous awards. Leigh’s art was recently selected for the inaugural Charlotte ArtPop exhibit featuring one of her alcohol ink paintings on billboards and news stands around Charlotte.
Along with her involvement with Ciel Gallery Leigh has participated in the International Arts Movement, Project Art Aid, the Arts and Science Council, and several local Art Leagues. She also regularly volunteers; mentoring and teaching art to the underserved through non-profits in the Charlotte area.
When not painting, Leigh enjoys accompanying her husband; assisting in seminars they jointly teach. This has allowed Leigh to visit, study, and gain inspiration for her artwork from numerous locations throughout the United States and Europe.
